Two days ago, 3000 Americans who never knew they would be the target of terrorism on our own soil were avenged. The man who claimed responsibility for this is now dead.
My husband, and other military members feel a huge sense of accomplishment, because as they are taught in basic training, when one fails or succeeds, they ALL DO. I know this is the main reason he's so happy that this man is gone, and fortunately he hasn't gone overboard with it. I too am glad, but only because this man will receive another type of justice, from a God he never believed in.
I heard a man on the radio yesterday saying that he was going to have to explain to his 8 year old son why everyone is so happy about someone dying, when he's been taught that death is a sad event. How interesting that a child should remind us that a HUMAN died?
This human may have felt led to hurt and kill thousands, but when you think that people are literally using his death as a platform for partying, it is very indicative of our state of being. He may not have valued life, but recent events have proven that some of us may not either.
Life is valuable, and vengeance can eat away at your soul. Just look at this child, so confused by the reaction of those he looks up to. What if we looked at life through a child's eyes, would we be ashamed of ourselves? Would we change how we react? I would like to think so.
Am I exempt from a little piece of this pride we all feel, of course not! But I have made sure that I remember that this person couldn't have acted with Christian charity, if he wasn't one....you won't ever act better, if you weren't taught better. So, let's teach our kids and ourselves to be better, kinder, more compassionate people!
